SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC)

The SSC is made up of parents, teachers, and staff who meet monthly to focus on setting academic goals and developing programs to help all students achieve these goals. The SSC uses these goals to determine funding priorities, develop a budget, and update the school’s site plan to support teachers, students, and families. Nominations and elections take place in the fall. For more information about the SSC, see the BUSD SSC webpage. For the 2019-20 school year, you can nominate yourself to be a SSC representative by filling out a nomination form. Return nomination forms to your child’s teacher or the Malcolm X office by Friday, September 20, 2019.

PLANNING & OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE

The P&O Committee is a district-wide group comprised of parent representatives from each BUSD school. The committee is voter-mandated to provide oversight and parent input on budget decisions related to BSEP (Berkeley Schools Excellence Program) funds. Each school nominates a P&O representative in the fall (often from the SGC) who attends monthly meetings and reports back to the School Governance Council. For more information, see the BUSD P&O Committee webpage.

ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COUNCIL (ELAC)

ELAC is made up of parents, teachers, and staff who meet regularly to discuss and budget for programs and services for the  English Learner community. For more information, see the BUSD Family Engagement webpage.
