Dear BUSD Families,
We are looking forward to seeing your students back at Berkeley Unified schools on August 15. As you enjoy these last few days of summer break with your students, please take a few minutes to learn about these important COVID-19 safety updates and resources that will be in place across the district for the 2022-23 school year.
COVID-19 Safety Plan
The BUSD COVID-19 2022-23 Safety Plan is now available on the district website. Click here to read the plan. Please refer back to this plan throughout the school year for information about testing, what to do if your students is a close contact to a case, has symptoms, tests positive for COVID-19, and much more. The Safety Plan will be updated with new information and as protocol changes. This plan will be available in Spanish later this week.

You may also view this recorded webinar to learn more about the district’s COVID-19 safety protocols. This will be especially helpful to families new to a Berkeley Unified school.
Vaccine Clinics
In partnership with the City of Berkeley and Carbon Health, BUSD will be hosting vaccine clinics at our schools, prior to our first day of school on August 15. Anyone aged 6 months and older may receive a primary series vaccination or a booster, as eligible.
Students under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine. If a parent or legal guardian is not available to accompany your student, please fill out this consent form and have your student bring it to the clinic.

Get Free at-home COVID-19 Test Kits
If you haven’t already done so, households are now eligible to receive a third round of 8 additional at-home, rapid COVID-19 tests from the federal government. Order free tests here. Free tests may also be available through your health care or insurance provider.
If you are blind or low vision, learn about ordering more accessible at-home COVID-19 tests.

Update Your Primary Health Permissions for the 2022-23 School Year
If you were registered in Primary Health during the 2021-22 school year, you should have received an email asking you to update your registration for the 2022-23 school year. If your registration has not been updated, Primary Health will continue to send registration reminders over the next few weeks. You can also click here to update your Primary Health registration for the 2022-23 school year.
If your student was not registered for COVID-19 testing through Berkeley Unified in Primary Health during the 2021-22 school year, you can register for the first time here.
Instructions for Uploading Over the Counter (OTC) Test Results for Your Student
Please upload Over the Counter (OTC) test results for your student to Primary Health every time you test your student with an Over the Counter (OTC) test. This includes the tests you will have your student take just before the start of school. Understanding the level of COVID in our school community helps the district prepare for testing and contact tracing operations.
Once you have updated your registration with Primary Health: Click here to sign into your Primary Health Account and upload your OTC test results every time you or your student tests.

Dr. Joanna Locke, COVID-19 Clinical Guidance Lead, answers the most frequently asked questions regarding school-aged children and COVID-19, including vaccination/boosters, testing, wearing a mask, and more. Watch the short videos for more information.
Masking Indoors is Strongly Recommended
We will begin the school year with the strong recommendation to mask indoors. Your student should also mask for ten days after being a close contact with a COVID-19 case and during the full 10-day isolation period if they test positive for COVID-19.
Monkeypox
At this time, there is no Public Health guidance specific to Monkeypox in our schools, largely because students are considered low risk for contracting Monkeypox. BUSD will continue to consult with our Public Health partners to stay up to date on Monkeypox protocols, in the event that a case is confirmed at one of our schools.

Clínicas de Vacunación

COVID-19 Serie de Vídeos de Guía Escolar

Se Recomienda Encarecidamente el Uso de Cubrebocas en Interiores
Comenzaremos el año escolar con la firme recomendación del uso del cubrebocas en los interiores. Su estudiante también debe usar el cubrebocas durante diez días después de haber estado en contacto cercano con un caso de COVID-19 y durante todo el período de aislamiento de 10 días si es que obtiene un resultado positivo en la prueba de COVID-19.
Monkeypox (Viruela del Mono)
En este momento, no hay ninguna guía de Salud Pública específica para la Viruela del Mono (Monkeypox) en nuestras escuelas, en gran medida debido a que los estudiantes se consideran el estar en bajo riesgo de contraer la viruela del mono. BUSD continuará consultando con nuestros colaboradores de Salud Pública para mantenerse al día acerca de los protocolos del Monkeypox, en caso de que se confirme un caso en una de nuestras escuelas.
