Masks will be optional outdoors, beginning Feb. 28th
Please continue to send your child to school with a well-fitting mask that they are comfortable wearing during the day, since indoor masking is still a requirement. If you would like your child to continue to use a mask outside, please make sure to review your expectations with your child at home. School staff rotate through different areas during recess and lunch, and will not be able to keep track.
2022 Golden Sneaker Contest
Malcolm X will be participating in the 2022 Golden Sneaker Contest from February 28th-March 11th, which is a part of the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools program.
Every day during the Golden Sneaker Contest, classes will tally how many students arrived to school using active transportation (walk, bike, scooter, skateboard, etc.), shared transportation (bus, carpool with another family), or by private car, and the class with the highest percentage of active and shared transportation usage will win golden shoelaces and a trophy made from a Golden State Warriors sneaker! The goals are to get exercise, lower our environmental impact, and reduce traffic congestion around school. Parking at least two blocks away from Malcolm X and then walking to school counts as active transportation because it helps achieve these goals!
Join the Bike Bus on March 4th for a fun and safe ride to school — look for a separate email in the Etree with details on how to join the bike bus or email Heather Ball at hubvox75@gmail.com.
We encourage you and your child to participate in the 2022 Golden Sneaker Contest! Not that we’re competitive, but in years past we’ve won the Platinum Sneaker, which is given to the school with the most participation in the county.
Read-a-Thon Ends Saturday!
Thank you for participating in this year’s Read-a-Thon and encouraging all of our kids to become strong readers! We have almost reached our fundraising goal of $35,000 to support the literacy and arts programs at Malcolm X. Please remind students to turn in their reading logs to their teachers. El uso de cubrebocas al aire libre será opcional, a partir del 28 de febrero
Favor de seguir mandando a su hijo/a a la escuela con una mascarilla que le queda bien para llevar durante la clase, porque el uso de la mascarilla dentro del edificio todavía es necesario. Si quiere que su hijo/a continúe llevando la mascarilla afuera, favor de repasar sus expectativas con su hijo/a en casa. El personal de la escuela rota por las diferentes áreas durante el recreo y el almuerzo, y no tenemos capacidad de monitorear quién debe llevar y quién no.
¡El maratón de lectura de Malcolm X termina mañana!
¡Gracias por participar en el maratón de lectura y por animar a nuestros estudiantes a leer! Casi hemos alcanzado la meta de recaudar $35,000 para apoyar los programas de lectoescritura y bellas artes de la escuela. 2022 Concurso del tenis dorado
La Escuela Malcolm X participará en el concurso del tenis dorado 2022 del 28 de febrero al 11 de marzo. Es parte del programa de Caminos Seguros a la Escuela del condado de Alameda.
Cada día durante el concurso, las clases marcan cuántos estudiantes llegaron usando un medio de transporte activo (caminar, montar en bici, patineta, monopatín etcetera), en transporte compartido (autobús, o llegando en carro compartido) y por carro privado. La clase que tiene el porcentaje más alto de transporte activo o compartido ganará agujetas de oro y un trofeo hecho por un tenis de los Warriors. La meta es hacer ejercicio, ayudar al medio ambiente y reducir el tráfico cerca de la escuela. Si se estacionan a dos manzanas de Malcolm X y caminar a la escuela, cuenta como transporte activo porque ayuda a alcanzar estas metas.

¡Animamos a las familias y estudiantes a participar en el concurso! En el pasado, hemos ganado el premio del Tenis de Platino por ser la escuela con mayor participación en el condado de Alameda.
