Please join the Malcolm X PTA for our March general meeting. We will be celebrating Pi Day (3/14) with pizza pies and dessert pies.
Free dinner will be provided by the PTA, but anyone who would like to bake a homemade pie is encouraged to bring one and enter our first ever Pi Day Baking Contest.
The contest "judging" will take place just before our first ever Pi-E Day Panel.
The Pi-E Day Panel will be a discussion/Q&A session with current UC Berkeley School of Engineering students from SWE (Society of Women Engineers), HES (Hispanic Engineers and Scientists), and other student interest groups.
Teachers, parents and students are all invited to attend and engage with the panel as we talk about "Why Engineering?" and how to support math and science learning (and experimenting and playing) in the younger grades when kids are just beginning to form ideas about what they are "good" at and which subjects they like and enjoy the most.
If you are interested in learning more about Engineering, how to encourage your child to explore and find success in STEM/STEAM subjects, or you just like pie, we hope you will be able to join us.

What is Pi Day?
Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant—the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter—which is approximately 3.14159.

Por favor acompaña al PTA de MX durante nuestra junta general del mes de Marzo. Estaremos celebrando el Día de Pi (3/14) con pizza y de postre tendremos pays.
La cena es gratis y proporcionada por el PTA, pero si quieres hornear un pay de postre nos encantaría que lo trajeras y lo inscribas en nuestro Primer Concurso de Repostería del Día de Pi.
El concurso tomará lugar justo antes de nuestro primer panel de discusión del Día de Pi.
El Panel de Discusión del Día de Pi será una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con estudiantes actuales de la Universidad de Berkeley de la escuela de Ingeniería, estudiantes de la Sociedad de Mujeres Ingenieras (SWE) y los ingenieros y científicos hispanos (HEC) además de otros grupos estudiantiles.
Maestros, padres de familia y alumnos están invitados a éste panel para discutir sobre “¿Por qué Ingeniería?” y cómo apoyar el aprendizaje de matemáticas y ciencias (y experimentar y jugar) en los grados menores cuando los niños apenas empiezan a formar ideas sobre para qué son “buenos” y cuales materias les gustan y disfrutan más.
Si te interesa aprender más sobre Ingeniería, cómo apoyar a tus hijos a explorar y ser exitoso en materias de STEM/STEAM, o si solamente te gusta comer pay, esperamos que nos acompañes.
