The MX Garden Needs Your Help!

Every summer we rely on parent volunteers to keep our beloved MX garden thriving. We’re so lucky to have this resource for our kids!

We still need waterers for three more weeks:

·      July 22–28

·      August 19–25

·      August 26–September 1 (first week of school)

You can also sign up to be “on call” in case someone can’t do their shift.

Waterers come 2 to 3 times during their assigned week and give the garden a good, thorough watering, which takes 60–90 minutes. Suggestion: bring bikes, scooters, and a picnic!

We’ll send detailed instructions out to all the waterers once we have the schedule down. This is a fun way to support the school garden and enjoy some summer weedos!

Please e-mail Laina Adler to sign up at laina.adler@gmail.com.

Her class is looking to borrow 14 white gi (martial arts) uniforms and 14 belts of any color.  Additionally, they need 4 black belts. Ideally the uniforms will fit a first grader, but larger will be fine. They will need them starting on May 31st and use them through June 7th.

If the uniform is actively being used, we can provide details on when we will be using them, so a lender can decide. Please email if you have a uniform you might be able to lend us.

Contacta a Laina Adler si te interesa, gracias.

Seeking New Summer Garden Watering Coordinator

Ms. Rivka is looking for someone to take over the job of coordinating the summer watering schedule this summer. Please help us keep this vital part of our Malcolm X community thriving over the summer! The garden needs to be watered all summer, and there are always very helpful volunteers who take on weeks of watering duty. We need a new person to coordinate these volunteers.

It's a really important and needed job, yet really easy and not time intensive—so it’s a win-win. The job basically entails soliciting volunteers through the newsletter and etree, putting together a schedule of the volunteers for each week, and sending out instructions and reminders.

The previous coordinator will be happy to send you all of the past documents and information, and you'd talk with Ms. Rivka as well to get instructions. This is a really fun and rewarding job! If you are interested contact Meredith Milet at mmilet@gmail.com.

Volunteer for a Safe, Smooth Rolling Dropoff

Dear Malcolm X community,

Spring is a busy time of year, but please make the effort to volunteer for Rolling Dropoff in the morning. It is important to have two adults at the King and Ellis Street gates every morning from 7:55-8:15 to keep dropoffs safe and efficient. Here are the classes responsible for Rolling Dropoff the remainder of the year:

May 7     Braga (2nd)
May 14   Abdolhosseini (2nd)
May 22   Adcock (2nd)
May 29   Huntington (2nd)
Jun 4      Phillips (1st)
Jun 11    Fletcher (1st)

DRIVERS: Pull forward before dropping off your children. Only the first three cars should open their doors.

Thank you!
