October 16th-2020

Calendar Change:

Because of distance learning, there has been a change to the BUSD calendar for conferences:

 

•Parent teacher conferences will be held on the November 16th-19th the week before the Thanksgiving Holiday,

•November 16th-19th will have shortened Zoom schedules (9:00 morning meeting and special classes only) 

•There will be no class on November 20th, which is the parent-teacher conference day. There will be class on October 30th now.

Toolbox Tip of the Week: Going First

The best way to help our kids to react productively to moments of frustration is to lead by example, naming how you feel and saying what you are doing to cope. I would recommend really calling it out, even exaggerating, because sometimes subtlety is lost on elementary aged children. For example “Wow, this is a really long line. I am in a hurry. I can’t make it move any faster, so I will just have to use my Patience Tool. I am strong enough to wait.”

DEADLINE EXTENDED!  Calling all MX parents, teachers, & staff!  Design the 2021 Malcolm X T-Shirt!

Be a part of Malcolm X history in a historic year by designing the 2021 MX t-shirt.  We are accepting submissions from all MX parents, teachers, and staff.  The deadline has been extended to 10/25 — that’s next Sunday!  For more information or to submit your design, email tshirtinfo@mxpta.org.

Berkeley Ed Hub offers resources for Berkeley students and families!

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30pm-5:30pm, students and families can come to the Ed Hub for:

- Technology needs (Chromebooks, computer exchanges, power cables, earbuds, Internet tools, or tech support)

- School supplies — we currently only have high school supplies

- Books for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade

- Spanish-speaking support for any of the above

 

The Ed Hub is located at the Berkeley Adult School (BAS) staff parking lot at the 1700 block of Curtis Street. Please note, you will be entering the staff parking lot on Curtis Street and exiting Francisco Street.  You can drive-thru and will not need to get out of your car.  Delivery is available for families that can’t get to the Hub during scheduled hours.  Questions? District Parent Survey

The BUSD Board of Education has asked for a survey of Early Childhood Education (preschool) and Elementary School families about the timing of on-campus reopening of our ECE and elementary schools.  

PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS SURVEY NO LATER THAN 8:00 pm on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18.

Cambio de calendario:

Habrá un cambio en el calendario del distrito:

 

•Las conferencias padre-maestro serán entre el 16 y el 19 de noviembre (la semana anterior a la semana feriada por el día de Acción de Gracias.

•Del 16 al 19 de noviembre, habrá un horario reducido de clases de Zoom (Sólo la clase de las 9:00 y las clases especiales) 

•No habrá clases el 20 de noviembre, que será el día de conferencias. Ahora sí hay clases el 30 de octubre.

 

Consejo de la semana de Toolbox: Ir primero

Ser un buen modelo es la mejor manera de ayudar a los niños cuando se enfrentan con momentos de frustración. Si nosotros los adultos podemos nombrar las emociones que tenemos y explicar cómo manejamos el estrés, los niños seguirán nuestro ejemplo. Mi recomendación es decirlo en voz alta, hasta exagerando porque los niños de primaria no siempre se fijan en las sutilezas. Por ejemplo  “Fíjate cuántas personas en la fila, y tengo prisa.. No puedo cambiarlo, así que tendré que usar mi herramienta de paciencia. Soy tan fuerte que puedo esperar.

¡Diseña la camiseta anual de Malcolm X!

Padres de familia, maestras y personal!  Sé parte de la historia de Malcolm X en un año histórico, diseñando la camiseta de Malcolm X de 2021. ¡La fecha tope para dar tu diseño se extendió hasta el 25 de octubre!  Para más información o para dar manda un correo electrónico a tshirtinfo@mxpta.org.

 

¡Berkeley Ed Hub ofrece recursos para las familias y los estudiantes de Berkeley! 

 

Cada lunes, miércoles y viernes de las 3:30 a las 5:30, los estudiantes y las familias pueden venir al Berkeley Ed Hub:

 

- Necesidades de tecnología (Chromebooks, cambio de computadora, cables, audífonos, ayuda con el internet, o ayuda con la tecnología)

- Útiles escolares — actualmente solo hay para la secundaria

- Libros para niños de kinder a 5º

- Hay servicio y ayuda en español

 

El Ed Hub se encuentra en el estacionamiento para el personal del Berkeley Adult School (BAS) en 1700 Curtis Street. La entrada es por el estacionamiento del personal en Curtis, y se sale en Francisco. No hace falta bajarse del carro. Encuesta del distrito para las familias

El Board of Education (Mesa Directiva de Educación) de BUSD ha solicitado una encuesta para las familias de ECE (preescolar) y de primaria acerca del momento para la reapertura en el plantel escolar de las escuelas ECE (preescolares) y primarias en BUSD.
